When was the last time you felt really inspired?
The last time that you learned about something, and knew that you had to share it?
The last time you wanted to change the world?
The last time that you felt that you could really make a difference?
It’s just too easy to use age as an excuse.
Sure, we can imagine ourselves doing notable things as adults, but as teenagers, what do we see ourselves doing? Texting? Watching Netflix? We limit ourselves to these stereotypical teenage activities, and push our aspirations out of sight. We tell ourselves that we’ll tackle those dreams tomorrow.
The truth is, we need to be the ones to shape the future.
This world needs your voice. This is the world that you are going to live in. This is the world that your children are going to grow up in. Isn’t that motivation enough?
And of course, you won’t be alone in this journey. Recently, I had the opportunity to meet several other eco-warriors at the Planet In Focus roundtable with David Suzuki. This was a truly enlightening experience, as I learned that so many other youth are interested in environmental issues. As a global community, we must work together to create the future.
So turn off your phone, look at the world around you, and find your passion.
You might end up doing something extraordinary.
